[After a productive (but admittedly somewhat boring) five hours of work sorting and filing papers at the Cherrygrove Pokémon Center, it's finally time for Yagyuu to head for home--or at least, for the room at the Cherrygrove Inn he's been sharing with Kirihara-kun since they both arrived in the city yesterday. He'd gladly work longer hours if they'd let him, but the rules are strict for minors, and so he's being cheerfully shooed out as soon as his time is up for the day.

As a result, anyone in the vicinity of the Center in Cherrygrove will probably see him exiting the front doors, his Breeder's Manual already open in one hand for casual perusal as he starts his walk back toward the inn. Strangely, he doesn't seem to have any Pokémon with him, though he does have his backpack slung casually over his shoulder like a model student might.

All things considered, he's not hard to spot, both from his lack of visible Pokémon and his bright yellow Rikkai jersey with the collar popped up at the neck. Which means he's also a prime target for bothering, should anyone feel so inclined.]

Something like that. [It shows just how tired he is when he instinctively takes a step back. There's a marked hesitation as he considers Yagyuu's hand, before reaching forward and taking it into a handshake.]

Though in France, it's a kiss on each cheek.

[And it's an movement and hesitation that Yagyuu carefully catalogues, even if he doesn't know the precise reasons for them at the time. The handshake is firm but brief, and he doesn't hold on longer than necessary.]

But fortunately, we're not in France, so the point is moot anyway.

[Which, all in all, isn't a terrible thing. He retracts his hand, and moves it so that it rests on the head of his Flygon, petting her absently. She makes small burbling noises, and moves towards him out of habit -- it's comforting, being in familiar territory.]

Oh? How do you know that the custom here isn't something similar?

[Yagyuu, unfortunately, doesn't have his Absol with him, so he's at something of a disadvantage on the Pokemon front. Still, he looks over the Flygon with a certain curiosity, finally taking advantage of the chance to appraise her up close.]

I expect you would've taken advantage of it already, if it were.

[It may be worth noting that she is a very large dragonfly, more so on the dragon front than the fly front, with the sole exception of her red, goggle-like eyes. And like her trainer, she also looks fairly worn-out, though possibly far more openly. No less cheerful, however, by the way she is making happy noises.]

Well, overwhelming you so early on doesn't seem like a particularly viable thing.

[It's mostly the size that's mentally tripping Yagyuu up--because really, dragonflies should not be that big--but in the grand scheme of things, he's getting better about not recoiling from every Pokemon he sees, no matter the size or shape.]

It wouldn't endear you to me, if that's what you're getting at.

[Then it might be worth showing him the five-foot-tall owls. Life is good when you're a five-foot-tall owl.]

Mm, I'll be sure to keep that in mind.

Are you staying somewhere?

The Cherrygrove Inn, yes. Kirihara-kun and I have been sharing a room there since we arrived.

Ah, Kirihara. [A genuinely fond note here as he peers around.] How is he, by the way?

He's doing well. Enthusiastic about the prospect of being a Pokemon trainer, and from what I hear, showing a fine amount of leadership in raising his team.

[Because despite the impression he may sometimes give, Yagyuu really is proud of their second-year. And he's their future, after all.]

And a good amount of foresight, too, from what I hear. [Thinking back on how Kirihara confided that he wasn't going to recklessly challenge the first gym before they were ready. Somehow, he thinks that maybe he shouldn't have looked over the boy before.] Has he tried riding his giraffe?

I believe that's how he arrived here as quickly as he did, actually. Riding on the back of...Ace, I think its name is.

That must've been an interesting sight. I think I'm a little disappointed that I wasn't around to see it.

He is in town, you know. You'll have the opportunity to ask him for a demonstration, if you're that eager for the spectacle.

Though it'd be hard-pressed to have him reenact the glory that is someone riding grandiosely on a giraffe into town for the first time for the sake of his teammate. You don't suppose I could get a verbal recount?

[A slight smile plays at the corners of Yagyuu's lips.]

It wasn't as grandiose as yours. It'd hardly be fair to hold him up for comparison, in light of that.

[a shrug, here]

It could just be that we had three people, rather than just the one. [one of which being your captain and the other being your double's partner being left unsaid]

It could also be that you were flying, and he was confined to the ground.

[He nods at the Flygon in their midst.]

A giraffe is impressive, but it's hard to compete with that.

[a brief chuckle, and the Flygon makes a pleased sound.] You know, she has a name.

I have heard it's the done thing for Pokemon. May I ask what it is?

Osaka. Her species is a Flygon, if you're curious.

What made you choose that one in particular? Simple whimsy?

If it was just that, then it probably wouldn't have been Osaka, of all things. [a bit of a chuckle, here] Maybe I threw another dart.

I wouldn't have put it past you, though.

[It sounds like humor, but it's actually fairly serious. Given the unpredictability Fuji's already shown so far, Yagyuu's not about to start making assumptions about what he would and wouldn't do now.]

Did you throw it at a map of Osaka?

Someone's catching on.

[mild, but there's amusement, there.] But not really. On the other hand, if she were still small and orange, I think you'd agree with the naming choice.
