[After a productive (but admittedly somewhat boring) five hours of work sorting and filing papers at the Cherrygrove Pokémon Center, it's finally time for Yagyuu to head for home--or at least, for the room at the Cherrygrove Inn he's been sharing with Kirihara-kun since they both arrived in the city yesterday. He'd gladly work longer hours if they'd let him, but the rules are strict for minors, and so he's being cheerfully shooed out as soon as his time is up for the day.

As a result, anyone in the vicinity of the Center in Cherrygrove will probably see him exiting the front doors, his Breeder's Manual already open in one hand for casual perusal as he starts his walk back toward the inn. Strangely, he doesn't seem to have any Pokémon with him, though he does have his backpack slung casually over his shoulder like a model student might.

All things considered, he's not hard to spot, both from his lack of visible Pokémon and his bright yellow Rikkai jersey with the collar popped up at the neck. Which means he's also a prime target for bothering, should anyone feel so inclined.]

He is in town, you know. You'll have the opportunity to ask him for a demonstration, if you're that eager for the spectacle.

Though it'd be hard-pressed to have him reenact the glory that is someone riding grandiosely on a giraffe into town for the first time for the sake of his teammate. You don't suppose I could get a verbal recount?

[A slight smile plays at the corners of Yagyuu's lips.]

It wasn't as grandiose as yours. It'd hardly be fair to hold him up for comparison, in light of that.

[a shrug, here]

It could just be that we had three people, rather than just the one. [one of which being your captain and the other being your double's partner being left unsaid]

It could also be that you were flying, and he was confined to the ground.

[He nods at the Flygon in their midst.]

A giraffe is impressive, but it's hard to compete with that.

[a brief chuckle, and the Flygon makes a pleased sound.] You know, she has a name.

I have heard it's the done thing for Pokemon. May I ask what it is?

Osaka. Her species is a Flygon, if you're curious.

What made you choose that one in particular? Simple whimsy?

If it was just that, then it probably wouldn't have been Osaka, of all things. [a bit of a chuckle, here] Maybe I threw another dart.

I wouldn't have put it past you, though.

[It sounds like humor, but it's actually fairly serious. Given the unpredictability Fuji's already shown so far, Yagyuu's not about to start making assumptions about what he would and wouldn't do now.]

Did you throw it at a map of Osaka?

Someone's catching on.

[mild, but there's amusement, there.] But not really. On the other hand, if she were still small and orange, I think you'd agree with the naming choice.

I do try to learn quickly. She used to be smaller?

Don't they all start out small?

My Phantom is fairly large, actually. Unless you meant her species in particular, in which case I couldn't say either way.

Phantom, huh. What sort of a pokemon is she?

He, I think. And I'm told he's an Absol, a sort of large white cat.

[With a scythe on its head.]

Ah, sorry; he. And I think I've heard of those. Very elegant creatures.

But Phantom-- I'll assume that that isn't just a reference to his elegance.

Yukimura-kun mentioned he's been naming his team after us--Sanada-kun, Kirihara-kun, Yanagi-kun. Kirihara-kun's doing something similar with his own team. So I suppose I merely took it as the done thing, to name it after something it reminded me of.

You know, sometimes, pokemon can grow up to take after their namesakes.

Do they?

[That earns Fuji a faint smile.]

I can't say I'd particularly mind that.

Almost like raising children, really. [bit wry at that. his Flygon makes a purring sound, though, and he looks over to her, thoughtful.]

-- sorry, you just came from the Center, didn't you.

I did, yes. Your timely arrival just coincided with my walk back to the inn.

[But the remark about raising children caught his attention--and curiosity.]

I suppose that means I ought to choose the names of my other team members with care in the future.

Maybe. Will you be keeping the literary naming theme?

[a bit of fishing, here. he's been toying with that 'Phantom' reference since Yagyuu's first mentioned it in their conversation, and based on their previous discussions on literature (and his subsequent delight in figuring that Yagyuu's well-versed in the classics), he thinks this is, perhaps, plausible.

but then again, he could always be wrong.]

[And he lets his eyebrows go up, because Fuji just managed to prove himself interesting again. He remembers their previous discussions on literature as well, of course, but he'd never mentioned his favorite. That Fuji successfully made the intuitive leap necessary to guess...yes, that is interesting, isn't it.]

That would depend, I think, on whether or not my next acquisition looks like a Christine.
