There's a saying, I believe, that things both bad and good come in threes. I'm not entirely certain if I subscribe to that belief, but I suppose there is something to be said for things taken in multiples being superior to ones that stand alone. Or perhaps that's simply the perspective of someone with a particular inclination toward doubles.

Though I admit I'm not averse to singles, if there should happen to be two tennis players in the same vicinity of a court. I enjoyed our game, Shiraishi-kun — let's have another again, soon.

But on the subject of doubles, today marks the second birthday I've had the occasion to observe in Johto. By local reckoning, it seems I'm now sixteen. And it also seems a few members of my roster have seen fit to observe the occasion in a manner...uniquely commemorating that. Thank goodness Marui-kun left me Tensai Jr. upon his departure a few months ago; it appears I'll be making good use of his reserves of Sleep Powder again.

And for the sake of indulging what is almost certainly a sense of morbid curiosity, a question: do any of you, reading this, have multiples of the same species of Pokemon in your roster? And if so, what is the most of any one variety you've ended up with?

I'd imagine it has most to do with the fact that their mother has been spoiled rotten since the day she hatched, and that seems to have gone to her head in more aspects of life than simply her own.

It's one I don't foresee myself acquiring anytime soon, certainly. Ghosts were more the purview of a friend of mine, when he was here.

Well, it sounds like she's got your hands full. Just how many of her offspring have you cared for, anyway?

Well, you're probably not missing too much. Bring home a ghost, and you have to sleep with one eye open. That, or wake up with scribbles on your face or a bed covered in Krabbies.

That depends on how you define offspring, I suppose. Last year at Christmas she graciously saddled me with sextuplets, and now those have seen fit to inflict another five on me for my birthday.

Five at once? Geez, and here I thought three was intense.

Hah. Well, I guess that's one way to keep them in line.

It was six the last time, and at least on this occasion I have the benefit of prior experience on my side.

And two weeks in advance to stock up on Sleep Powder prior to their hatching. It's crude, but effective, and quite frankly I'm content to utilize whatever is effective when it comes to a scenario like this.

Hey, I can't blame you. Six baby eevees would definitely be a handful to tackle all at once. Heck, six of any baby Pokémon would be.

But at least you do have that experience. Sounds like it's all pretty standard by now.

Yes, I suppose you could say I'm something of an expert in their care by this point.

Maybe you should teach a class on baby Pokémon. People do tend to take in handfuls of eggs, after all.

By the same token, perhaps I ought to mass-produce my multi-egg incubator apparatus. If one can really call such a thing an "invention" in the first place.
