[Good morning, Johto! How're you liking this lovely view of...well, what appears to be a hardwood floor, some table legs, and a partially ajar closet? Seems like Yagyuu's Gear must've fallen off an end table and turned on by mistake — or, more accurately, got knocked off an end table by a careless Jolteon as he jumped from the table onto the closet doorknob to try to swing it open and then stepped on by a Flareon by mistake. Not that it shows from the recording, of course.

What does show from the recording, on the other hand, is a very nice shot of that floor, those legs, and that closet, and perhaps that's all there is to —

Wait.

There goes an Eevee, rolling a blue egg along the floor with its nose, and after some vaguely haphazard maneuvering involving padded feet and a slippery floor, it and the egg disappear behind the open door of the closet.

Curious.

About twenty seconds later, along comes a Vaporeon, pushing a light brown egg along the floor with sweeping motions of its tail, turning and pivoting with careful precision as it rolls the egg behind the open door and into the closet.

Hmm.

Another few members of this little egg parade follow shortly thereafter — a Leafeon, a Flareon, a Glaceon — each rolling their egg along, and each depositing it in the closet. Finally, a Jolteon comes along with an egg of his own, and this time he's got company with him: a curious Zorua, who comes bounding over and chatters quietly at the spectacle. With a few yips and squeaks of his own, the Jolteon goes back about his business, and like his brothers, deposits his egg into the closet.

Seemingly perplexed, the Zorua appears to consider this, then bounds around the door and into the closet himself. A few moments later, a child that looks conspicuously like a very young, childish Yagyuu (albeit one with a delightfully furry black tail) comes toddling back out, rolling the light brown egg along with it — just as footsteps begin to sound against the hardwood, and a set of legs in Rikkai-yellow warm-ups and tennis shoes appears.]

...And just what are you up to?

[The miniature Yagyuu looks up, tail wagging almost guiltily; as Yagyuu bends down to retrieve the egg, he seems to notice that his Gear has fallen (and more importantly, that the light that signals it's recording is on), and quickly reaches over to shut it off.]

So they aren't supposed to be doing that?

Not in the least. Not that that's ever stopped them before, to be quite honest.

Is it a hiding instinct or something?

Maybe it's warmer in the closet?

I suspect it is a hiding instinct, though not from predators. If my guess is correct, they're attempting to hide them from me.

And it likely would have worked, too, had it not been for Frost. I don't often go in that closet.

...Right. Uh. Why?

I haven't seen any need for it, really. We seem to have kept spare linens in there, but now that I'm the only person left to occupy the house, I haven't had much need to go in after the spares.

[Yagyuu, you asshole, that was not the question she was asking AND YOU KNOW IT.]

[Grumble. She just looks unimpressed.]

Because that's obviously what I meant.

I admit, I was wondering what had you so intrigued about the state of my closets.

[Growl.]

Why are they hiding eggs from you?!

[Tee hee.]

Presumably because they've perceived — quite correctly, in fact — that I rarely want them when I have them, and so they were trying to dispose of them for me.

...You don't want them? [She blinks.] But everyone seems to want more of them here.

At last count, I found I have forty-three creatures under my direct care. I'm sure you'll forgive me for not leaping at the chance to pick up more.

...Wow. I only have four.

[She frowns.]

So what are you going to do with them?

[He sighs a little, resigned.]

Find out who's responsible for them, I suppose, and then see about giving them away. The Breeding Center ought to take them and adopt them out to good homes, if nothing else.

[She nods.]

Does this happen a lot?

That depends on your definition of "a lot". It certainly happens more than I'd like it to.

[Of course, he'd like it to happen exactly never, but. Also, he'll just be poking his head into the closet to uproot another egg, which appears to be blue.]

This one, I think I recognize, at least.

Back home the sheep only had babies maybe twice a year.

[Well, she certainly approves of a blue egg.]

What is it?

[Tucking it under one arm, he makes his way down the hall, through the kitchen, and out the back door into his yard, where (accompanied by a rather happy-looking Octillery) a thirty-foot-long ~~blue noodle dragon~~ Dragonair is sunning herself near the tennis court.]

One of Thalassa's. I'm not surprised; she and my Octillery have done this before.

[This is Astrid looking a bit closer at her ~~magic window~~ pokegear because wow.]

...That egg will hatch into something like her?

[Okay, so she's not really thirty feet (more like thirteen), but she certainly feels massive sometimes. In Yagyuu's estimation. Especially when she and her boyfriend attempt to cram themselves into the neighbor's pool, good lord.]

Smaller, but similar-looking, yes. Thalassa was just under two meters long when she hatched — [Oh, right, she probably has no idea what the metric system is, huh.] — that is, about half the size she is right now. They grow considerably as they mature.

[There's a quiet pause as Astrid considers the dragon on the screen, veeeeery carefully.]

...And you don't want that egg.

Ah, just a moment. Thalassa!

[He'll just be heading over to see his noodle dragon, who perks up instantly at the sight of her master, and even moreso when she spots the egg under his arm.

A brief bout of conversation then ensues, mostly consisting of Yagyuu inquiring things everyone already knows, like is this your egg, and Thalassa attempting to wrap herself around him like a giant blue boa constrictor for a massive noodly mom-hug.]

[Astrid just waits. And manages to not laugh at the hug. Somehow.]

[When he eventually manages to extract himself, he's mildly exasperated but ultimately no worse for the wear.]

I'm sorry, you were saying. No, I don't plan on keeping this one. Unlike some of my roster I could mention, Thalassa generally isn't overly attached to her eggs.

...So, if you don't want it. I'll take care of it?

[What? It's a blue dragon! The girl has a type.]
