[It's late afternoon on the outskirts of Goldenrod City, where Yagyuu has evidently been out training his team; it's a somewhat unusual sight to see them all out of their Pokeballs at once, but at the moment the full roster has been released to roam around the open expanse of field chosen for today's practice grounds.

Or at least, most of the full roster is: there's an Absol staked out relatively near his trainer, seemingly on high alert as he surveys the other Pokemon in his midst. Farther back from the camera, a Rapidash is roaming with a stately air as a very small Vulpix trots along beside him, bounding four steps for every one of his own. And even Yagyuu's Ditto seems to be present— if the occasional glimpse of purple molecular goo seeping over the edges of the camera lens is any indication.

Yagyuu himself is visible, too; he's crouching down to administer his Eevee's usual meticulous grooming— an activity she clearly seems to enjoy, given the way her tail is flicking with pleasure at the attention— and speaking quietly to her while he's at it.]

Now that Vampa's evolved, that only leaves you to go, doesn't it?

[And she coos, pushing her head against his hand insistently.]

You're certainly growing strong enough for it. And the necessary stones aren't particularly difficult to come by, either; a quick trip to the department store will easily take care of that. So it's just a matter of deciding which type suits you best, isn't it?

[He glances over, surveying his team as they roam and remarking almost absently:]

An electric type, perhaps, might—

[But he never gets the chance to finish the sentence, as the Eevee lets out one last emphatic trill before taking one step back and beginning to glow with bright, almost blinding light—

— and when it clears, there's an Espeon in her place, just as perfectly well-groomed and somehow managing to look twice as haughty for it.

Yagyuu, for his part, just stares for a few seconds before shaking his head in what is probably half amusement and half disbelief.]

...Ah.

[And he keeps staring, up until a Pidgeot comes flapping down from overhead a few minutes later, drawing his attention up and away from the Espeon and toward this latest arrival.]

Irene, another excellent job, but I see we'll have to work at perfecting your aim—

[And on that fairly cryptic note, purple goo oozes completely over the lens, and the Gear switches off.]

Are they that popular? I hadn't noticed.

[Likewise, Rise is spared Yagyuu's menagerie, on one of the rare occasions that they're all (well, almost all) present and accounted for. Behind him, but still within view of the video, his Rapidash and Vulpix trot by.]

One just evolved the other day! And I've known a few... they're really gorgeous, aren't they?

[ good thing Pepper isn't the jealous type, she's close to sparkling. ]

They're certainly purple. It seems Lady ended up taking after her father, after all.

... You don't like purple?

It's not my first preference of colors, but I don't have any personal vendetta against it.

Mm... well, you're not alone there. [ for VASTLY different reasons, but she doesn't readily provide clarification. ] But it looks good on her.

[Damn right it looks good on her. And since she knows she's being talked about, along comes Lady to inspect the device, as haughty and lovely as ever.]

I presume it's what she wanted, in any case. [As his hand instinctively comes down to stroke her head.] And I had always planned to let the choice be hers, anyway.

It was all Pepper's, too. [ she affectionately rubs the Flareon's ears, even as she smiles appreciatively at the screen. ] Hey, congrats!

[Flicking her tail dismissively doesn't have quite the same effect now that it's more ropy and split, as opposed to furry and full, but Lady still somehow manages to work all her usual arrogance into it anyway.]

Though I will admit, an Electric type would've been an equally well-received option.

You don't really see a whole lot of Electric types here... besides Mareep, and Pikachu, and those weird magnet things.

I've noticed they're something of a rarity. All the more reason to acquire one, I'd think, but without many options, it makes matters somewhat difficult.

Well, there's Plusle and Minun, too. And Jolteon, but that'd mean another Eevee.

I was rather hoping Lady would find herself drawn toward Jolteon, actually. But I don't know that I'd be particularly interested in a second Eevee, either, after having her as my first.

Nothing really beats the first one.

I was thinking more along the lines of how Lady tends to treat anyone she perceives as competition.

... I get the feeling she'd be entirely merciless. [ she'd make a good idol. ]

She gets it from her parents, I imagine. [She's Rikkai.]

There are some things a girl's gotta fight for, so I can't really fault her for it.

Like my favor? Since it appears that's what she's after.

[ that much was fairly obvious, but she only smiles. ]

If someone went after the person you loved, there's usually no holding back. In Lady's case, she knows what she wants, so of course she'd defend it.

[Oh for the love of Federer are we really going there so soon after--nope. Nope, we're not. ABORT ABORT ABORT.]

It's what I'd expect from any of my team. She just happens to be the best at it.

[ GOING WHERE, MISTER YAGYUU, I WAS ONLY TALKING POKÉMON. ]

I don't think mine are that--

[ and she breaks off abruptly, because she's remembering a certain hissing fury coiled up on her chest. ]

... Er, well, I don't think it's out of wanting my favor...

[YOU SAID THE "L" WORD. FLEE FROM THE "L" WORD.]

Oh? Then out of a desire to protect you, perhaps?

Something like that. Kanzeon can get pretty vicious about it.

Kanzeon being? I don't believe I've had the pleasure of meeting that particular member of your party yet.
