002 | Cherrygrove City | Action;

[After a productive (but admittedly somewhat boring) five hours of work sorting and filing papers at the Cherrygrove Pokémon Center, it's finally time for Yagyuu to head for home--or at least, for the room at the Cherrygrove Inn he's been sharing with Kirihara-kun since they both arrived in the city yesterday. He'd gladly work longer hours if they'd let him, but the rules are strict for minors, and so he's being cheerfully shooed out as soon as his time is up for the day.

As a result, anyone in the vicinity of the Center in Cherrygrove will probably see him exiting the front doors, his Breeder's Manual already open in one hand for casual perusal as he starts his walk back toward the inn. Strangely, he doesn't seem to have any Pokémon with him, though he does have his backpack slung casually over his shoulder like a model student might.

All things considered, he's not hard to spot, both from his lack of visible Pokémon and his bright yellow Rikkai jersey with the collar popped up at the neck. Which means he's also a prime target for bothering, should anyone feel so inclined.]

[Don't worry, Kenya, that's just Yagyuu being Yagyuu.]

You work with the patients at the Center, you said?

[Someday he will get used to the experience of Pokemon popping out from random places when one least expects it. But it is not this day, which is why he's staring fairly apprehensively back.]

[Absently petting Melos while he talks, oblivious to the gentleman-to-lizard staring match that seems to be happening]

Yeah. Nearly my whole family is in the medical field, so I know a bit about how hospitals work and how to treat patients. I mean of course it's a bit different here, but it mostly translates okay. You're helping the Nurses with paperwork and stuff, right?

[He nods a little, still kind of side-eyeing the lizard as they go.]

My father, as well. I considered one of the treatment jobs, but it seemed more prudent to just take the administrative one instead. [Not to mention it's a lot less hands-on, which suits Yagyuu fine.] It's easy enough work, and there's time to read during the slow periods. I don't mind it.

See, that slow periods thing doesn't work for me. Gotta keep myself moving. S'good you're enjoying it, though.

[Melos crawls up onto Kenya's head, not breaking her gaze. The sudden absence of Treecko to pet snaps Kenya out of his trance]

Oh, yeah, you. [to Yagyuu;] I'm gonna head onto Route 30 for a bit. D'you want to come? You've got your Pokemon, right?

[For a moment, Yagyuu doesn't say anything, which is largely because he's mentally running back through his knowledge of their rival teams and trying to decide why the need to keep moving seems familiar. Shitenhouji's Oshitari...wasn't he known as a speed star of some variety? That would make sense, then.]

Ah--I don't, actually. He's with Kirihara-kun at the moment, undergoing some training.

[the speed star of naniwa, thankyou very much]

Huh, I didn't even know you could do it like that.

[Yes, yes, be glad he remembered you at all.]

Evidently, you can. It made for a mutually beneficial arrangement, though; Kirihara-kun oversees group training while I'm at work, and we both reap the rewards of it.

[shrug!] Seems fair. What's he like, yours?

[If that gives him pause for a second, it's only because it's not really a question that had occurred to him, prior to this point.]

...Obedient, I suppose. He seems well-behaved, faithful, compliant. I haven't had any trouble with him yet.
